We know what we like.

Leona Ruby started with a love of jewelry and the belief that the best stores should be full of things you want to look at a little closer. Jewelry is still at the heart of what we do, but the store has grown in whatever direction catches our eye.

We’re drawn to pieces with something worth noticing. Maybe it’s the shape. Maybe it has some history. Maybe it’s brand new and unlike anything else we’ve seen lately. There isn’t a formula for what makes it in. We just know when something feels like Leona Ruby.

That point of view is what ties it all together. The mix changes constantly, which means the store does too. Come in looking for one thing and there’s a very good chance something else will get your attention.

You’ll find us in Des Moines’ Historic East Village, where we’ve been doing this since 2011.

Meet Leona. Meet Ruby.

The store is named after my grandmothers, Leona and Ruby. They were two very different women, but both had a huge influence on me and on the spirit of the store.

They introduced me to patent leather handbags, high heels and, most importantly, gobs and gobs of jewelry. They also brought plenty of love, humor and generosity into my life. Naming the store after them felt like a way to bring a little of both of them with me.

As a kid, you could find me at the out in the yard with an armful of bangles. Apparently not much has changed.

Leona Ruby was my dream. And now, over fifteen years later, I still get to fill it with things I love and share them with people who get it.
